SAMULCO, Sun Life, and Smart Communications Partnership on Financial Literacy Basics

Sta. Ana Multipurpose Cooperative (SAMULCO) in partnership with Sun Life and SMART Communications conducted the webinar on Financial Literacy Basics to the SAMULCO members via Zoom and Facebook live last September 23, 2022. The resource speaker from Sun Life, Mr. Hilario “Toots” Malapad, Jr, discussed three topics namely, 7 Steps to a Brighter Life, Money for Life (Personal Financial Planning), and the Future-Proof Your Business.

Mr. Malapad highlighted the importance of saving, investing, and managing wisely your finances in working towards your goal. He also shared the possibility of having money for life through financial planning as the key with the help of licensed financial advisers. Lastly, he talked about how insurance companies can help businesses in risk management.

On the last part of every topic, members were given the opportunity to ask some questions and the resource speaker answered them. Members were also interviewed to share their learning and they provided answers and were grateful for this kind of activity because they have learned something new, particularly in financial management.

Aside from the topic discussion, games were also prepared for the members and the winners received humble prizes from the SAMULCO and partnered institutions.

“Basically the most important thing is, the financial literacy is we learn how to save and protect our lives and prepare for what we called the retirement period. So this is the time wherein we start saving kahit konti lang” Chairperson of the Board, Joselito O. Santillan said in his closing remark. The cooperative is looking forward to another batch of Financial Literacy discussions as also mentioned by the Chairperson of the Board to enrich the learning of the members in becoming financially literate. SAMULCO views it as timely and relevant to have more financial talks as people are getting more interested in knowing how to control their finances effectively.
